Send MailPoet emails using the existing SMTP setup

MailPoet can send newsletters via its PHPMail path. However, this method often bypasses the SMTP configuration that has already been set up for other WordPress emails. The plugin connects these two levels: MailPoet messages sent via the PHPMail path are forwarded to wp_mail() hand over.

What this makes possible

  • The existing SMTP plugin also processes MailPoet newsletters and test emails.
  • Gmail/OAuth and other provider integrations of the SMTP plugin can still be used.
  • If the SMTP plugin provides a sending log, the forwarded MailPoet emails will also appear there.

What Remains Unchanged

The plugin is not an SMTP server and does not replace either MailPoet or the SMTP plugin you are using. MailPoet’s own sending service and SendGrid are not redirected. Because this solution integrates with MailPoet’s internal PHPMail path, major MailPoet updates should first be tested in a staging environment and then verified using a test email and a live newsletter.
