# Divi 5 in practice: changelog, roadmap & secure migration from Divi 4

Divi 5 is not a normal „point update“, but a complete technical substructure under your favorite page builder. This has an impact on performance, workflow, migration and long-term maintenance. At the same time, Elegant Themes delivers new Divi 5 updates every two weeks, which are documented in the official Divi 5 changelog.

In this guide, I'll take a look at Divi 5 in practice and show you how it works:

what the Divi 5 changelog really says

how to read the Divi 5 roadmap & release timing

when you as an operator:in a Divi 4 website should switch to Divi 5

and how to plan the migration with as little risk as possible

1. brief overview: Where does Divi 5 stand today?

Elegant Themes is releasing Divi 5 in a five-stage rollout:

Developer Alpha (completed)

Developer Beta (completed)

Public Alpha (completed)

Public beta (currently running)

Official release (pending)

Divi 5 has been in the public beta phase (phase 4) since October 2025. According to the official blog post „The Divi 5 Beta Has Arrived“, Divi 5 is practically functionally identical to Divi 4, including WooCommerce modules and a stable migration system.

Important points:

Divi 5 is already easy to use for new websites.

Existing Divi 4 sites can be migrated via the Divi 5 migrator, including a fallback mechanism for incompatible modules.

The Divi-5-Changelog / „Divi 5 Update Status“ is continuously updated and lists all improvements, bugfixes and new features, including public beta releases.

Elegant Themes deliberately does not name a fixed release date, but speaks of a final release after completion of the public beta phase.

The short answer to the most frequently asked question:

„When is Divi 5 officially coming? “There is no confirmed date. From the roadmap, public beta status and previous communication patterns, it can be deduced that the final release is targeted for the end of 2025 / beginning of 2026 - but without guarantee.

2. what is Divi 5 - and why is this update so big?

Divi 5 is essentially a rewrite of the framework:

Farewell to the shortcode substructure; content is stored in a more modern format reminiscent of the native Gutenberg block editor.

Focus on performance, stability, scalability and expandability - Elegant Themes has repeatedly emphasized this since the first announcement in 2022.

New API and internal systems so that both the ET team and third-party developers can provide features faster and more reliably.

In practical terms, this means

Less legacy ballast in the code

Potentially better core web vitals because CSS/JS loading and rendering can be optimized

A more modern editing experience with features such as Loop Builder, CSS Grid, Flexbox layouts, Inspector, nested presets and more

It is precisely this technical foundation that makes Divi 5 interesting from an SEO and performance perspective. In my technical SEO guide 2024, I already explain how important strong core web vitals are for sustainable rankings - Divi 5 can be the new theme foundation for your WordPress website.

3. understand Divi 5 roadmap & release phases

The Divi 5 roadmap is officially documented in the Elegant Themes Help Center and is also referenced in Elegant Themes blog posts and independent articles like this one.

Roughly summarized:

2022: Official announcement of Divi 5 as a „foundational update“ with a focus on performance & stability.

2023: Dev Alpha & Dev Beta for third party developers to prepare the new API ecosystem.

2024: Public Alpha with reduced features („Divi-Lite“) for new sites, later demo site and ongoing feature releases.

Early 2025: Aggressive feature phase (Loop Builder, CSS Grid, Flexbox, Design Variables, Inspector, nested modules and much more).

October 2025: Start of the public beta phase; according to ET, all blocker features (incl. WooCommerce modules) are implemented.

Important for your planning:

The public beta phase is the last stage before the „normal“ theme update in the WordPress backend.

It is precisely intended for agencies and site owners to test realistic migration scenarios.

When customers ask you for the „official Divi 5 release date“, the honest answer is:

„Elegant Themes deliberately doesn't give a date. The fact is: Divi 5 Public Beta is close to production, the updates come every two weeks and we can already test realistically on staging systems.“

4. where to find the official Divi 5 changelog

The official Divi 5 changelog can be found in the Help Center of Elegant Themes as article „Divi 5 Update Status“.

There you will find:

all Divi 5 versions incl. release date

Detailed list of bug fixes, improvements and new features, e.g. public beta releases

Notes on migration improvements (e.g. handling unknown attributes when converting modules from Divi 4 to Divi 5)

In addition, I maintain a direct overview of the Divi 5 change log here, which summarizes the official status and enriches it with roadmap context.

Divi 5 changelog (full screen view) →

„For all those who continue to stay on Divi 4 (or work in parallel), I maintain the current Divi 4 Theme Changelog Guide as usual“

5 Divi 5 vs. Divi 4 in everyday life

5.1 Architecture & shortcodes

Divi 4 essentially saves layouts as shortcode trees. Divi 5 uses a new storage format without shortcodes, which is closer to the block logic of WordPress.

Consequences:

Migration means: Divi converts Divi 4 modules to the new format; unsupported modules remain in legacy mode but continue to be rendered.

In the long term, debugging and refactoring layouts will be easier because the shortcode layer will no longer be required.

5.2 Performance & Core Web Vitals

Thanks to the new framework and ongoing optimizations, Elegant Themes reports from:

faster builder interactions

better handling of large pages

targeted performance improvements in the Divi 5 frontend, e.g. in later public alpha and beta versions

In my technical SEO guide 2024, I show how important LCP, CLS, INP & Co. are - Divi 5 provides the technical basis to achieve these values with clean implementation, caching and hosting.

5.3 Features & Workflow

Some of the Divi 5 features that are highlighted in the changelog and blog posts:

Loop Builder for dynamic lists & archives

Flexbox & CSS Grid Layouts

Customizable Breakpoints

Design Variables & Relative Colors

Nested Modules / Module Groups & Nested Presets

Inspector for deeper analysis & debugging

Complete WooCommerce modules in the new framework (at the latest since Public Alpha 24 / Public Beta)

At the same time, some little-used features from Divi 4 have been dropped (e.g. Quick Actions, Extend Styles).

6 When should you switch to Divi 5? - Decision support

The question „Is Divi 5 stable enough for live websites?“ depends on your scenario.

Scenario A: New website in the next few months

You start a new project without legacy ballast.

You have the opportunity to test Divi 5 at your leisure and revert to Divi 4 if necessary.

My clear recommendation: seriously consider Divi 5 - especially if performance and a modern builder workflow are important to you. Use a staging system and test realistic content.

Scenario B: Existing marketing site (without exotic extensions)

Classic company website, landing pages, blog, perhaps a few standard Divi 4 modules.

My recommendation:

Wait for the public beta phase (currently running)

Create a staging copy

Install Divi 5 via the members area download, run the migrator, perform tests

If the result is stable, you can migrate to the live site in the medium term.

Scenario C: WooCommerce store with many third-party modules

You use extensive Divi extensions or specialized WooCommerce modules from the Marketplace.

My recommendation:

Check whether the plugins used already offer Divi-5-compatible versions (often documented in their own changelogs).

Only then test the migration - ideally with sufficient test time and monitoring of conversion paths.

If a large part of your sales logic is in third-party modules, „wait and see & targeted testing“ is currently the most responsible option.

7. practical guide: Step by step from Divi 4 to Divi 5

This section summarizes the essential best practices from the official ET documentation for the Divi 5 migrator, the „How to migrate your website to Divi 5“ guide and common migration best practices.

Step 1: Inventory & risk assessment

Which Divi modules do you use intensively (standard modules vs. niche modules)?

Which third-party plugins with Divi integration are active?

Which pages/layouts are business-critical (homepage, product pages, checkout, etc.)?

This shows how risky an early migration is.

Step 2: Create a staging environment

Create a staging system or clone of your site on a subdomain/separate installation.

Ensure that the same server environment is running there as on the live site.

Many hosters offer staging out of the box; alternatively, you can rely on manual clones.

Step 3: Complete backup

Back up the complete file system + database.

Test the backup so that you can really restore it in an emergency.

Step 4: Install Divi 5

Download the Divi 5 ZIP from the Elegant Themes members area.

Update the theme in the staging system (overwrite existing Divi).

Step 5: Check Divi 5 migrator

You will find the „Divi 5 Migrator“ in the WordPress backend after installation.

The migrator scans your site and displays an overview:

Which content is compatible

Where third-party modules are in play

How many pages, templates, Woo products etc. are affected

Step 6: Perform test migration

As soon as you can assess the risk, start the migration on the staging system („Migrate this site to Divi 5 Beta“).

Divi converts all compatible modules to the new format and encapsulates unsupported modules in a compatibility layer.

Step 7: Manual tests

Checklist of what you should look out for:

Are all important pages visually stable?

Do the navigation, forms, dynamic content (Loop Builder) and WooCommerce checkout work?

Are there JavaScript errors in the browser console?

Does the Visual Builder load consistently and perform well?

Step 8: SEO and performance check

PageSpeed Insights / Lighthouse for central pages (start page, most important landing pages, checkout).

Monitor core web vitals.

This is where my technical SEO guide 2024 pays off: Crawlability, indexing, structured data and core web vitals should be specifically monitored around the upgrade.

Afterwards, it's a good idea to work through my Yoast SEO tutorial to go through metadata, sitemaps and schema again.

Step 9: Rollback strategy

Define clearly before live migration:

„What do we do if something breaks?“

„How far can we roll back in an emergency?“

Elegant Themes explicitly documents how Divi 4 content can be restored via backup or the migrator.

Step 10: Live conversion

Once all tests have been passed, repeat steps 4-9 on the live site - ideally outside peak traffic times.

Then briefly check performance, forms & tracking again.

8th Divi 5, performance & technical SEO

Divi 5 provides the technical basis - whether your site really becomes faster depends on what you do with it.

Important levers:

Clean layout structure

No superfluous nested rows/sections.

Consistent use of Flexbox / CSS Grid instead of „spacing by hand“.

Asset optimization

Minimization of own scripts, critical CSS, image optimization etc.

You already go into detail here in your technical SEO guide 2024 (internal link).

Monitoring before and after migration

Benchmark core web vitals & loading times before the upgrade, measure again afterwards.

Keep an eye on Search Console.

SEO configuration

With my Yoast SEO guide, you can ensure that metadata, sitemaps & schema continue to be displayed cleanly after the upgrade.

9 GDPR, Google Fonts & Divi 5

Divi 5 does not fundamentally change the content of the fonts topic: The question of how to integrate Google Fonts in compliance with the GDPR remains.

My article „GDPR-compliant use of Google Fonts with Divi“ describes three basic ways:

Do not use Google Fonts

Host fonts locally

Use GDPR-compliant font CDNs (e.g. Bunny Fonts) in combination with a suitable plugin

Especially when switching to Divi 5, it makes sense to think about this topic again:

Is your Google Fonts setup already GDPR-compliant?

Are you using my „Bunny Fonts for Divi“ plugin?

10. best practices for agencies & internal teams

A clear Divi 5 rollout plan is recommended for agencies, freelancers and internal marketing teams:

Define pilot projects

Select 1-2 internal or less critical customer projects on which Divi 5 will be tested at an early stage.

Writing a migration playbook

Convert the above checklist into an internal SOP document.

Clearly define responsibilities (Dev, SEO, project management).

Communication with customers

Explain transparently why Divi 5 is coming, what benefits it has and why a structured changeover makes more sense than a „click at random“ in the live system.

If necessary, add a „Divi 5 migration module“ to maintenance contracts / retainers.

Offer services

Offer a Divi 5 audit, migration planning and performance optimization as clearly defined packages.

12 Conclusion & next steps

Divi 5 is more than just an „update“. It is a new foundation for your WordPress website:

The Divi 5 changelog helps you understand which features and fixes are already live.

The Divi-5 roadmap shows that we are in the final phase before the official release.

With a structured migration checklist and proper SEO monitoring, the switch from Divi 4 to Divi 5 can be planned, tested and reversed.
